Born in Rio de Janeiro on May 26, 1968 picked up electric bass for the first time at the age of 15.

In 1991, start his career as a free lancer , playing with saxophonist Juarez Araújo (citted on Downbeat magazine as the brazilian Charlie Parker).

The first beaking point in his career occurred in 1992 when he was called to join the #1 blues artist in Brazil, Celso Blues Boy. Between 1992 and 1996, Alex Rocha did tours with Celso´s Band including performances at:

International Blues Festival - Rio de Janeiro(1993) which also had the Buddy Guy´s Band performance.
Nescafé & Blues Festival – São Paulo (1994) which included Robben Ford & the Blue Line; Ronnie Earl and Robert Cray.

This time also included Alex´s participation on the album “Indiana Blues” (1996), the best seller in Celso Blues Boy´s career which also featured the very special guest B.B King in one track.

Bachelor of Music at Estácio de Sá University in 1994 where studied bass with Yuri Popoff (Toninho Horta`s bassist), and Improvisation with guitarist Nelson Faria, Since then, Alex Rocha works also as a bass teacher in Rio.

In 1998 he took another major gig with famous jazz-fusion guitarist Victor Biglione. This period included performances at Jazz & Blues Festival –Búzios- RJ(2000) and Festival Tribulaciones(2001), Buenos Aires- Argentina.

In 2000 Alex was called to perform at Globo TV (the most important brazilian network), in a weekly musical show for kids called “Gente Inocente”.
It gave him the opportunity to record live performances with great brazilian artists like singers: Simone, Ed Motta , Cláudio Zóli, Pepeu Gomes among many others.

In 2003 Alex Rocha was called to take part in the band of Emílio Santiago, one of the most famous singers in Brazil and also known internationally.

In December 2003 came out his first solo release ” Boas Novas” (Good News) - Niterói Discos, which includes 9 tracks (five compositions by his own) and features the fantastic Márcio Bahia (Hermeto Pascoal Group) on drums. The album was co-produced by the great brazilian bassist Arthur Maia (Gilberto Gil´s Band).
